First Bangladeshi Series Annie Gets Global Premiere in Cologne
Bangladesh’s growing film industry has earned another proud moment after the new mini-series Annie was selected for screening at one of the world’s top television festivals in Europe.

The series, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Abdullah Mohammad Saad, will make its world premiere in the “Spotlight: Women in Series” section at the prestigious Seriencamp Festival in Germany on June 9.

The selection marks a historic achievement, as Annie becomes the first Bangladeshi series ever chosen for the international festival, which is known for showcasing outstanding television productions from around the world.

Popular Bangladeshi actress Nazifa Tushi plays the lead role in the series. Sharing her excitement on social media, the actress described the character as one of the most challenging and beautiful roles of her career.

She praised director Saad for pushing her creatively to fully transform into the character of Annie.

The mini-series also features performances from Yash Rohan, Simon Sadik, Sarika Sabrin and Farhana Mithu.

Saad not only directed the series but also wrote and developed its screenplay. The filmmaker has continued to gain international recognition since the release of his debut film Live from Dhaka in 2016.

His global breakthrough came in 2021 when Rehana Maryam Noor was selected for the prestigious Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, bringing international attention to Bangladeshi cinema.

Now, with Annie heading to Germany for its world premiere, many see the series as another major step forward for Bangladesh’s presence on the global entertainment stage.
